I hide toys. Not like when you need to hide Christmas gifts from children…but more like I hide the noisy toys in my house when the kids aren’t looking. Some might call me the Grinch. Some might say that I’m a little sensitive to noise. It’s true. I have a low threshold for excessive noise. Please tell me I’m not the only mom that does this?
What’s funny is when my kids notice their toy is missing after a few days. They’ll say things like, “Mom, where’s my vacuum cleaner?” Or “Where’s my dancing and singing toy?” I then have to dig them out of the back of the closet. Of course until the next time I hide them away.
What’s super awesome {sarcasm} about this noise thing is that I have 5 kids which means it’s awfully noisy in our house most of the time. So, in my defense, the noisy toys…don’t help this mama out.
An opportunity for Redemption
Once a year I make the exception for noise. That’s right, I take a chill pill, grab my ear plugs and have a ball with my kids on New Year’s Eve. I recently sat down with my children and we created these noise maker shakers to prepare for our totally awesome, annual New Year’s Eve party where its all about the kids…and lots of noise! WAHOO!
You can thank me later for these gems. What’s great is I found all of the supplies to make our DIY Noise Maker Shaker at our local dollar store! Let’s get started.
Step #1 – Gather Your Supplies
Step #2 – Add Beads
Each child gets 2 plastic cups
Step #3 – Add Confetti
Fill the other half of the cup with confetti
Step #4 – Tape the 2 Cups Together
The easiest way to do this is to lay out a long piece of thick packaging tape
Step #5 – Time to Shake!
Celebrate the coming New Year with your little ones, grab some ear plugs and have a ball with your new DIY Noise Maker Shaker! I promise you, your kids will remember when mommy let them make a ton of noise while counting down to the new year. Even if you decide to put the kiddos down early so mommy and daddy can enjoy the countdown in peaceful quiet, do a pretend countdown to midnight at bedtime instead.
As we look forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve with our growing brood of children, we hope you are too!
