It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the easiest homemade cape you’ve ever seen!

Written by Mandy

Easiest homemade cape ever. DIYWe attended a birthday party on Saturday that was a superhero theme and it was out of this world, AWESOME!  This super mom, super amazed me! She made nearly every activity AND the party favors by herself!

I will give you a sneak peek into some of her ideas!

First, I MUST begin with the party favor! Each child received a gift bag with a superhero cookie and a homemade cape!  This cape is adorable and so EASY to make!

She cut up a t-shirt, leaving just the neck and the back free to flow in the wind.  She then used felt and cut out a lightning bolt and each child’s initial.  She used fabric glue to adhere the felt pieces to the back of the cape and voila!  A superhero cape in 5 minutes flat!

For one of the activities she set up a “punch out wall” for the kiddos to punch through and find a prize! My kids LOVED punching out the wall! She used a HUGE cardboard box that had been flattened out and opened up completely and wrapping paper.  She cut little “windows” into the cardboard box and then covered one side of the box with wrapping paper. On the opposite side she hung ring pops in baggies behind each “window” so that the children can “punch out” the window and find their prize! Genius and so fun!

She also created a “photo booth” by hanging blue sheets from a clothesline. The sheets were meant to resemble the sky. She pinned pictures and phrases that read, “It’s a bird, it’s a plane!” to the sheets.  The children stood in front of the backdrop, dressed in their superhero get up and posed like their heroes for the perfect photo opp!

My kids had a blast at this superhero birthday party in the park and my youngest wears his cape every single day!  I will definitely be “borrowing” some of her ideas for my son’s upcoming superhero themed birthday party!  I LOVE celebrating other super mom’s crafty DIY ideas!
